Wind Powered Cmv with Solar Assist

Energy efficient and Least emitting mode of transport is the need of the hour with the depleting fossil fuel resources and the increasing threat of global wanning.This paper discusses the design as well as manufacturing of a four wheeled electric vehicle which derives power from both solar and wind energy in an environmental friendly and cost effective manner.The collected energy is delivered to the cars batteries.Wind energy is obtained through an innovative Micro Wind Turbine of roof top installation. It is a Flap Turbine where the blades are made of movable flaps so as to induce positive torque at every point of rotation. These movable flaps, when combined together, act as a sail or blade for the VAWT. Analytical prediction of the power is found to be higher than the commercially available drag type wind turbines due to the implementation of sail boat principle. The CMV is also assisted by electricity generated through polycrystalline solar panels located directly on the vehicle. The electrical and mechanical system consists of lithium ion batteries, power electronics and a brushless DC motor. This includes a speed controller, a dc-dc converter and a battery charger. This Paper also describes the Body Chassis and the Battery Case Design.
