Experimental Investigation on Explosive Welding Titanium/Steel Clad Plate
Explosive welding titanium/steel experiments were performed by using pure titanium ASME SB265Gr. 1 and the moderate steel ASME SA516Gr. 70. Considering the possible influence of steel mechanical properties and surface Vickers hardness on the bond strength of the clad plates, we tested the normalized ASME516Gr. 70 steel plate. The data show that there is a relationship, HV≈5.4 σ,, between the yield strength (σ,) and surface Vickers hardness (HV) for the moderate steeL The bond shear strength of the clad plates was tested according to the specification of ASTM B 898-05, and the bond interface characters were revealed by disjoining the two dissimilar metals. The result shows that higher bond shear strength corresponds to more regular interfacial wave configuration. With our experiments data, we studied the weldability window, and found that the parameter of Reynolds number should be select in the range from 5. 3 to 5. 8 when explosive welding titanium/steel pair. And the dynamic parameter of explosive welding 3. 7mm ASME SB265Gr. 1 to ASME SA516Gr. 70 should be larger than 720m/s for the cladding plate impact velocity when the impact angle in the range of 11 -17 degree.
