OLED: New Generation Display and Lighting Technology Design, Fabrication, Packaging and System Application
Organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) have been attracting more and more concerns on their potential application to flat panel displays, flexible displays and lighting devices. Two different driving modes, Passive Driving (PM) and Active Matrix (AM), are widely applied for PM-OLED and AM-OLED production. AM-OLED has some merits of faster rapidly response, better contrast and wider viewing angle comparing with LCD. The latest marketing survey reports that AM-OLED will occupy the larger quota in market with the rapid expansion. This is why AM-OLED usually is called the new generation ¨dreaming〃 display. In the world wide, Korea, Japan and China Taiwan are far ahead of AM-OLED research, development and production. In China Mainland, demestic companies, e.g. Tianma, BOE, Visionox and so on, begin to establish the production line for AM-OLED. At present, the large size display is one of the technology challenges for AM-OLED development and manufacturing. As one of the pioneers started to research PM-OLED in 1990s, Shanghai University has been launching a lot of resources, including human resource, financial support and materials support on OLED projects in the last twenty years. In 2008, the first 7 inch pilot line of AM-OLED had been established based on the technique of microcrystalline silicon thin film transistor (冚m-Si TFT) in China Mainland. The research group designed, fabricated and packaged a 7 inch full-color AM-OLED panel with VGA 640⊙RGB (H)⊙480 pixels and luminance for 150 cd/m2. The chief tasks in future focus on the research and development of flexible OLED, AM-OLED with oxide TFT, thin film packaging and system integration.
