Evaluation of five Hemarthria compressa at a frost-prone site in up-land areas of Sichuan Province
Introduction: Warm-season grass H. compressa showed potential as a summer pasture species in lowland and middle-land hills of Sichuan Province, In the subtropical upland area, some of them could endure frost threat. Previous experiments have revealed considerable genetic variation within H. compressa for winter-hardiness, two wild germplasms H031 and H042 had high cold tolerance. This trial was designed to determine if three varieties (Chonggao, Guangyi, Yaan) and two further apparently hardy lines (H031 and H042) were more productive and persistent at a frost-prone site in up-land areas of Sichuan.
