Research on Product Innovation in Tourism Development

The purpose of this paper was to discuss how SixSigma may be applied to tourism product development. Six-Sigma is a strategy that yields a dramatic reduction in defects or mistakes in business processes. This paper presented some of the common methodology of using Six-Sigma in product design and discussed the application of Design for Six-Sigma (DFSS). Then the common challenges, difficulties, and expectations for tourism product development were analyzed, followed by an illustration of the framework for developing tourism product using DFSS. Thus, a flow chart on the creation of tourism product was drafted, outlining the elements that have to be taken into consideration in order to successfully stimulate touring practice. Finally, a practical case was presented, which introduced a tourism product based-on cultural heritage.
