How behavior of government moderates the effects of external capabilities on performance: Evidence from China’s firms

Based on the dynamic abilities theory and strategic political management perspective, provide a conceptual model which link firm‘s capability, government influence and firm performance. Theoretically, viewing the firm‘s capabilities of influencing government (CIG) and industry(CII) as firm‘s dynamic capabilities, and these capabilities can differently affect firm performance in China. Empirically, by use of 201 samples of shaanxi, results show that the CIG have an inverse U-shape effect on their performance while the CII have positive effect on the performance, and the two capabilities are distinct and complementary constructs. The moderating effects of government support in policy and the government intervene on the relationship between the capabilities and performances are different.
