NETWORK TIES, INTERANTIONAL OPPORTUNITRY RECOGNITION AND INTERNATIONALISATION OF EMERGING ECONOMY FIRMS

While network ties are substantially discussed in the context of emerging economies, limited research has been undertaken to explore the networks established and utilised beyond home markets and the impact of these networks on emerging economy firms’ performance. To fill in this gap, this study examines how international network ties at global and local levels function in recognising opportunity and knowledge acquisition in international markets by incorporating network theory, internationalisation and corporate entrepreneurship literature. The empirical results indicate that local network ties are significantly linked with international opportunity recognition and knowledge acquisition. However, risk orientation moderates the effect of local and global networks on opportunity recognition and knowledge acquisition with varying degrees. The results also indicate the positive impact of opportunity recognition and knowledge acquisition on firm performance.
