Creating a Global Innovation Culture with an Entrepreneurial Spirit:Emerging Practices from MNEs

A dynamic and evolving global marketplace demands an agile and adaptable organization that can respond to new market opportunities around the world. In order to foster innovation, organizations have to consider cross-cultural needs for improving communication and building a shared culture of innovation amongst global team members. This requires an organizational culture that can facilitate entrepreneurial behavior for idea generation and knowledge-sharing between headquarters and subsidiaries. How are multinational enterprises (MNEs) utilizing organizational resources to develop the entrepreneurial abilities necessary for product creation and innovation? In order to examine this question, we have pursued an exploratory study through interviews with 45 executives and senior team managers responsible for global product management and innovation in 35 MNEs based in Asia, Europe, and the US. This study presents current practices and challenges in developing an organizational culture and communication practices that facilitate global product innovation within the MNE.
