Distance-dependent Signal Enhancement of Gold Nanoparticles in the Surface Plasmon Resonance Based Bio-sensing
It is well known that gold nanoparticles have a strong enhancement in the surface Plasmon resonance based on bio-sensing system due to the coupling between LSPR and SPR. However the size and mass effects of the gold nanoparticles themselves also change the surrounding refractive index, which in turn tune the signal. But less effort have been put in to separate these two factors. In this work, we studied the signal enhancement of gold nanoparticles of coupling effect. The gold nanoparticles were assembled on the planar gold surface through layer by layer deposit method. The experiment showed a strong distance dependent coupling. For the diameter of 20 nm gold nanoparticles, the coupling occurred within 4 nm.
