Determination of Trace Elements in Marine Sediments of the South China Sea Coasts, Malaysia
The paper is the first document regarding concentration and distribution profile of trace elements (B, Ba, Be, Bi, Br, Co, Cs, Ga, Ge, Hf, Li, Mo, Nb, Rb, Sc, Sb, Sn, Sr, Ta, V, W, Y and Zr) in the core marine sediments of the east coast of Peninsular. The present study is done parallel with pervious study on elemental assessment of heavy metals, rare earth elements and actinides in the marine sediments of the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Multielemental analysis was carried out by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). In both cases methodology validation was performed by certified reference material analyses. For the core elemental distributions the enrichment factor values, average Igeo and mCd values indicate that the trace elements of the core sediments are uncontaminated in all sampling stations that are consistent with previous studies results of heavy metals, rare earth elements and actinides.
