Startup of Combined Biological Purification Tank and the Study in the Treatment of Rural Decentralized Sewage in Chongming Island
Random disposal of rural decentralized sewage has seriously threatened rural environment. Development of new technologies which are suitable for local decentralized sewage treatment is the key way out. The combined biological purification tank was studied to treat the rural decentralized sewage in Chongming Island. The results showed that the biomembrane in the CBPT were cultivated and domesticated by precoating treatment with aerobic activated sludge under 0.5 m3/d flow rate and 25.7 ℃ average water temperatures. After about 45-day cultivation and domestication, biomembrane in the CBPT were hanged successfully and tended to steadily. From the whole startup progress, the biomembrance was easily and quickly cultivated, and the startup can be finished without the professional worker and aeration. The combined biological purification tank can effectively complete the organic substance degradation, also as the nutriments such as nitrogen and phosphorus. Under the stable operating conditions, the removal effect of COD was obvious by the CBPT with removal rates 69.29% in summer, 60.22% in autumn, 45.82% in winter and 59.45% in spring respectively. By comparison, the removal rates of the four seasons were close to each other due to the buried structure maintaining a higher temperature. Furthermore, this system exhibits many advantages such as footprint, low cost and flexible in operating as well as its viability in rural areas.
