Impacts of Aerobic and Anaerobic Leachate Recirculation on COD and NH3-N Removal

Abstract:The objectives of this study were to determine the impacts of leachate recirculation concentrated by membrane in aerobic and anaerobic condition. An anaerobic leachate-recalculated reactor was operated without aeration while the other one was operated in aerobic condition. The chemical oxygen demand (COD), NH3-N and pH in leachate sample were monitored regularly in both reactors. The effect of recirculation rate, controlled by the recirculation frequency and calculated by hydraulic loading rate (HLR), was studied. The results show that the aerobic leachate recirculation gives better performance than anaerobic leachate recirculation in organic component degradation and NH3-N removal.
