Effects of Irrigation with Paper-making Wastewater on Soil Improvement of Reed Wetland in Yellow River Delta Area
To study the effect of paper-making wastewater irrigation on soil properties of moderate saline-alkali wetland in Yellow River Delta, a field experiment was conducted using different wastewater irrigation frequency treatments. The results showed that, with the irrigation frequency increasing, soil total N, available N, P, K, organic matter contents, total porosity, pH,and microbial biomass carbon increased, and soil salt content and density decreased. Compared to the treatment without wastewater irigation, soil organic matter and available N contents increased by 32.0~84.6% and 8.1~29.4% after irrigation 2-4 times. The greatest available P (13.26 mg/kg) and total N (0.45 g/kg) were both founded in the treatment of irrigation 3 times. After wastewater irrigation, the soil C/N ratio decreased. Phosphatase and dehydrogenase activities increased with the wastewater irrigation frequency increasing, and the highest was in the treatment of irrigation 3 times. Urease activity increased by 1.1, 1.4, 2.0, 2.1 times in the irrigation treatments from 1 to 4 times, respectively, compared to the treatment without wastewater irrigation. The paper-making wastewater irrigation can significantly improve reed growth, soil physical and chemical properties, and reduce soil salinity. In the present study, based on the significant difference among treatments, wastewater irrigation 3-4 times was better than irrigation 1-2 times for reed growth and soil improvemen. These findings provide the scientific basis for ecological restoration of degraded reed wetland with moderate saline-alkali soil in Yellow River Delta, and are of great significance for the exploitation and utilization of paper-making wastewater resource.
