Research on Treating the Residual Organic Reagents in Flotation Wastewater with Adsorbent Activated Coke

The adsorption of residual reagents in flotation tailing wastewater of sulfide mine was researched with a new water adsorbent-activated coke. The influence of activated cokes particle size, dosage, adsorption time, the concentration of wastewater, the initial pH of wastewater and the adsorption temperature were investigated. The result shows that the dosage of activated coke and the adsorption time were the main impact factors. When treated under room temperature and natural pH for 60 min, the adsorption could reach equilibrium. The reagents removal capacity was increased with the initial organic concentration. When the COD of simulated wastewater was 400m g/L, in the condition that adsorption time was 60 min, absorbent was 2 g/L, and the temperature was 25 ,the removal rate of organic flotation reagents was 76.5%. The adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms study showed tha ℃ t the Bangham equation q=117.07-117.07exp(-1.024236t 0.2935) described the adsorption kinetics most effectively and Langmuir isotherm q=C/(4.7436-0.003C) was the best explanation for experimental data. Though it had lower specific surface area than the conventional adsorbent activated carbon, yet activated coke was a valuable and cheaper adsorbent.
