A study on Construction of 3 Dimension River Topographical Information and Its efficiency using LiDAR data

The recent formation of social discourses on the FourMajor Rivers Restoration Project has raised nationwide concernsin Korea. To this end, although some projects such as the RiverImprovement Master Plan and the Ecological Study of RiverBasins have been being implemented in order to collect overallinformation of rivers, the river overflowing has repeatedlycreated damages from embankment collapse and flooding as theriver bed coefficient grew larger from the characteristic climatewith seasonally intensified rainfalls concentrated in summer time. The current national prevention activities for river-associateddisasters are still stagnant at the level of post-disaster recoveryrather than the advance preventive measures, and the river-associatednatural disasters are tend to become more aggravated. At this point, as the unexpected weather conditions had made thepatterns of precipitation even more difficult to predict, moreresearches are required to be performed focusing on the advancepreventive countermeasures against the river-associateddisasters. Such advance preventive countermeasures include thepreemptive identification of areas at the risk of damages, whilethe simulation of flooding and river overflowing can beperformed by using a cross-section replica of those areas underthe similar conditions with the state of disaster. These measuresaim to enable the advance preventive actions instead of repeatingpost-disaster responses to the natural disasters. This requiresestablishing the infrastructure-based spatial database withsecuring the geomorphic information of major rivers andenhancing its accuracy. Thereby, the measures to makeadvancement for resolving such issues are being derived fromutilization of the Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) (LiDAR: LightDetection And Ranging) that can calculate the altitude valuesfrom high spatial resolution. In this study, the river channelneeded to be materialized with precision on the basis of LIDARwhich has enhanced the existing scanning methods. The targetarea of this research was the Nakdong River. This research usedtools like existing 1/1,000 Digital Road Map and 1/1,000 DigitalRoad Map and then, the comparison/analysis of accuracy in thenew type of LIDAR. Thereafter I intend to make judgment on theon-site applicability of the new type LIDAR and by doing so, thisstudy aims to present measures to establish the advancedinformation infrastructure of river.
