Spatial Scale Effect and Spatial Scaling of Chlorophyll-a Concentration in Lake Taihu,China
Retrieval of chlorophyll-a concentration using multi-sourceremote sensing images is the development trend of inlandwater quality monitoring by remote sensing. In this paper, LakeTaihu in the southeast of China was selected as the study area.Based on the analysis of the spatial heterogeneity by usingmeasured data, a method for up scaling 30m spatial resolution chlaconcentration to 240m was developed by using HJ-1 CCD image. Then the algorithm was applied to correct chla estimated fromMODIS data. The results indicated that there was an appreciablescale effect on chla concentration at the resolution of 250m, and thedegree of spatial heterogeneity enhanced with increasing scale. Inaddition, the method for up scaling can improve the precision of theresults estimated from low spatial resolution image. Aftercorrection, the accuracy increased by 10% and the result was muchcloser to actual values.
