Creative Clusters Operating Mechanisms; Case Studies of Two Creative Cities
This paper explored the creative clusters in London and Shanghai, and investigated the differences between the two cities and highlighted the reasons of these differences. Drawing on studies of creative clusters, some experiences could be found for the development of creative cluster in Shanghai. For the purpose of this study, the creative industries parks in Shanghai and the art studio groups in London are chosen as the objects to make this research. Creative Industries Park is the main mode of creative clusters in Shanghai and in a similar vein the Art Studios Group is also converted from the old factory and warehouse and provides the space for the artists, and furthermore, the Creative Industrial Clusters is composed of a number of Arts Studios Building. Through comparative analysis on the ownership, operation and the management system of the creative clusters in both cities and investigate the underlying constrain within Shanghai creative industries. According to the experience and enlightenment of creative industries in London, the suggestion about the development of creative industries in Shanghai is proposed after the comparative analysis and the discussion of the existing problems. After arguing the differences and examines factors affecting the management of creative industries in the two cities the suggestions and counter-measure for the creative industries in Shanghai are included according to the local cultural and economic model.
