Succeeding in the Fashion World by Transforming Passions and Problems into Creative Opportunities

As a fashion professional and academic I am often asked different questions related to working in the fashion industry. Not only by students but any young fashionistas I meet. They are always very keen to search for answers and tips on how to succeed in fashion. I have recently met a young girl who after finding out I work in fashion promptly asked if I knew many celebrities. It is important for young fashionistas to understand that fashion is not merely about celebrities and glossy magazines. Understanding fashion goes beyond this. Students need to recognise the value that clothes have and how they help understand identities. All this celebrity world make it seem all too easy for young people to become designers, models or fashion photographers, but reality is far from that. Students frequently question why are university studies important in helping them getting a job in the industry. Indeed if we reflect about it many famous fashion designers did not go through higher education. However it is a different world now, and different issues such as the present economic crisis make it more difficult for young people to succeed. The world is becoming more and more competitive and by choosing a good fashion degree students are carefully building a quality career.
