Theory of Self-organization and Revitalization of Historic Residential Areas in Old Cities

Applying Theory of Self-organization to urban planning has profound theoretical meaning and great applied values. This paper discuss the revitalization of historic residential areas in old cites based on the Theory of Self-organization and put forward three ways to improve the self-organizing abilities of historic residential areas in old cities. The three ways are encouraging residents selfrehabilitating, forming basis-kernel space and stressing the salient features of streets through space aggregating. It can promote the historic residential areas in old cities recovering its vitality by self-regenerating and selfadaptation through these ways.
