Complex Coupled Mode Theory and Applications

The conventional coupled-mode theory (CMT) has been a popular and powerful method for the analysis of couplings between discrete guided modes, as it often leads to simple and revealing analytical solutions. For non-guided radiation modes of continuous spectra, the CMT does not lend itself to the same treatment of the discrete guided modes 1-2.
