Photonic Devices for 100Gbps and Beyond
Considerable effort has been made to increase the capacity of future networks. The challenge of exceeding 100G has been studied to realize cost effective network systems including ether networks. The installation of advanced modulation formats and digital coherent system technologies has attracted a lot of attention with a view to overcoming the problem of increasing capacity with the traditional approach. To achieve these systems, the light sources should have a narrow spectral linewidth 1 and be modulated with an advanced format. In this report, we present several key optical devices including a tunable light source with a narrow spectral linewidth and a Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) with phase-modulation characteristics.
