Relationship Between FDI and Telecommunication Growth in Nigeria

Telecommunication sector is one of the fastest growing industries in Nigerian economy, with the help of the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) which has attracted more investors to participate in the industry. This study investigates the empirical relationship between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and telecommunication growth in Nigeria. The panels of data used in the study were sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria statistical bulletin, Nigeria Communication Commission, World Banks World Development Indicators of 2008. The period of analysis was 2001-2008. An ordinary least squares method was used to ascertain the relationship between FDI and telecommunication growth in Nigeria. The result shows that with the exception of GDP all the other variables such as consumer subscribers, private investment and technology have a positive and significant relationship with FDI. It is recommended that government should improve more infrastructural facilities to generate more FDI into Nigeria.
