Application of numerical simulation on eliminating casting defect of automobile wheel hub
Shrinkage defect was easily discovered at the trial production of automobile wheel hub made from ductile cast iron .Previously, the control of casting defects was usually based on the experience of the foundry engineers and verified by repeated test or production, therefore trial and production period of castings was long. In order to find out the reason for the shrinkage defect and eliminate it in time, two improved casting projects were brought forward and numerical simulation technology was performed to analyze the casting solidification process. Based on the simulation result, the solidification characteristics of the original project and two improved projects were compared and the optimized casting project was received to be applied to the production of automobile hub casting. The result shows that the shrinkage defect of hub casting has been effectively eliminated and the recycle of pilot production was significantly cut due to the application of numerical simulation technology.
