Influences of manganese on the hot deformation of austenitic Fe-Mn-Si-Al alloys

Influences of Mn on hot deformation behavior of austenitic Fe-Mn-Si-Al alloys were investigated by isothermal compression tests on a Gleeble-3500 thermo-mechanical simulator at temperature range from 900 to 1100 ℃ and strain rate range from 0.01 to 1s -1. The results show that the peak stress of Fe-Mn-Si-Al alloy during hot deformation increases with increasing Mn content. The activation energies for hot deformation are determined as 361.17kJ/mol and 411.17kJ/mol for Fe-20Mn-3Si-3Al alloy and Fe-25Mn-3Si-3Al alloy, respectively. Furthermore, the softening mechanism of Fe-Mn-Si-Al alloy during hot deformation changes with the variation of Mn content. The dynamic recovery is the main softening mechanism of Fe-20Mn-3Si-3Al (20Mn) alloy. Dynamic recrystallization of single peak occurs in Fe-25Mn-3Si-3Al (25Mn) alloy within the investigated ranges of strain rate and temperature. The influence of Mn content on the constitutive equation of both the alloys is also determined.
