Numerical simulation for processing windows in TiAl alloys during the hot forging
In this paper the FEM software Deform-3D was used to simulate the forging process of TiAl alloys. The simulation results show that naked forging of TiAl alloys is not easy to carry out due to the huge temperature loss. Although with the increment of the size of the billet, the temperature loss is decreased. Yet through naked forging a perfect billet without defects can not be obtained. Canned-forging can enlarge the processable region of TiAl alloys in the processing window. And with the increment of the billet size, canned forging can be carried out at a low strain rate without defects.
