A Study on the Mechanical Properties of Basalt Fiber Reinforced Composite
This study examined the applicability of basalt fibers as reinforcing materials in an epoxy matrix. The mechanical properties of basalt and glass fibers as a fiber reinforced composite were analyzed. The fractured surfaces of basalt and glass fiber reinforced composite were also evaluated. The each fiber sheet was impregnated with epoxy resin in a vacuum and the test specimens were produced in an autoclave. The strength of the basalt fiber was excellent compared to glass fiber. In addition, the mechanical properties of the basalt fiber-reinforced composites were higher than those of the glass fiber-reinforced materials.
