Research on the interface behavior between Titanium steel and WC coating produced by the electro-spark deposition

WC coating was produced on the surface of Titanium by electro-spark deposition. The micro-hardness distribution, the microstructure and chemical composition distribution and phase composition of the coating layer were obtained with hardness meter, scanning electron micro-scopy (SEM), energy dispersion spectrum(EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The results show that the thinkness of WC coating is about 5~25μm, the micro-hardness of the coating layer is about 700HV100g, the micro-hardness of the substrate is about 200HV100g.Inter-diffusion and metallurgical bond formed between coating layer and substrate. The main phases of the coating consist of TiC,WC1 , Ti and W.
