Integrated Waste Treatment: A Solution to the Problem of Municipal Solid Waste
With rapid growth of world population and improvement of living quality of residents, the pollution of municipal solid waste (MSW) has become more and more serious. The traditional treatment processes of MSW include landfill, composting and incineration. These three techniques have their own advantages and disadvantages. The requirements on waste treatment can hardly be achieved by single technique, so integrated waste treatment is necessary. In this study, the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional treatment processes of MSW are introduced. The conception and mode of integrated waste treatment are put forward, in which the three traditional techniques are combined organically and the waste separation is the base of the method. The method forms through integrating strong points of all the three techniques and it turns out to be economically feasible. The integrated waste treatment is a prospective solution to the lasting problem of MSW.
