Alkaline Hydrothermal Pretreatment for the Increase in Biodegradability of Leaves Waste Beijing Forestry UniversityR1
The digestibility of municipal solid waste (MSW) is limited by the high content of structured green waste, such as aspen leaves. The objectives of this study are to investigate the effect of alkaline hydrothermal pretreatment on the anaerobic digestion of aspen leaves. The waste was hydrothermally pretreated in a dilute alkali solution. The hydrolysis product was incubated in 500mL saline bottle to determine biochemical methane potential (BMP) under mesophilic anaerobic conditions. The hydrolysis and digestibility were significantly enhanced by pretreatment. SCOD was 31676 mg·L-1 after pretreatment at 170 at the dose of ℃ 4 g NaOH/100 g solid for 1h, and 20d specific biogas production of hydrolysate was 344 mL·g-1 , an increase by 90% compared with that for raw material. The results of batch biochemical methane assays were also proved by semi-dry digestion.
