Determination of Acid Volatile Sulfides and Simultaneously Extracted Metals in Sediments from Hongfeng Lake
Acid volatile sulfides (AVS) and simultaneously extracted metals (SEM) of eleven surface sediment samples, which collected in sediments from Hongfeng Lake in Guiyang, were determined in order to assess potential toxicity posed by the heavy metals. The AVS and SEM concentrations were analyzed and the SEM/AVS ratios were calculated. The results were as follows: The AVS concentration in sediments ranged from 65.12 to 189.45 μmol·g-1 (dry weight) with the mean value of 123.25 μmol·g-1 and variation coefficient of 37.68%. The SEM concentration ranged from 2.250 to 9.833 μmol·g-1 (dry weight) with the mean value of 4.182 μmol·g-1 and the variation coefficient of 51.08%. The SEM/AVS ratios ranged from 0.012 to 0.084 with the mean value of 0.039. Judging from the SEM/AVS ratios which were all far below 1.0, the bioavailability of these heavy metals in sediments were low to the aquatic organisms presently.
