Model Development for Anaerobic Digestion of Cellulose under Simulated Landfill Conditions
Anaerobic digestion of cellulose is associated with landfill stabilization. However, the research on the mechanisms of cellulose digestion in landfill is still lacking. In this paper, a dynamics model for cellulose digestion was established on the basis of mass balance and carbon conversion, coupled with the Monod model for gas generation from cellulose. The simulation results of the model are well consistent with the experimental data. The parameters and coefficients in the model are estimated by fitting the experimental data, rather than using the empirical constants. This study reveals the mechanisms of gas generation from cellulose digestion at different temperatures in landfill, and the dynamic model is believed to be more appropriate and more convenient in landfill design and operation.
