Study on Pyrolysis Characteristics and Kinetics on Printed Wire Boards and Copper-Clad Laminate

The pyrolysis characteristic and kinetics of printed wire boards (PWBs) and copper-clad laminate (CCL) were studied at different heating rates (β=10, 20, 30 and 50 ℃/min-1). The results showed that, TGA curves of PWBs and CCL shifted to higher temperature with an increase of β. The DTG peak temperatures Tp for both PWBs and CCL scraps rose with β increasing. The maximal decomposition rate νmax of CCL increased significantly with the rise of β as compared to that of PWBs. Besides, the Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose method (KAS) and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method (FWO) were used to determine the apparent activation energies E and pre-exponential factors A for pyrolysis of PWBs and CCL. It was found that, the E values were 138.19 kJ·mol-1 for PWBs and 143.93 kJ·mol-1 for CCL, with A values 0.93×1010 min-1 and 1.74×1010 min-1, respectively.
