WEEE Management: Its Achievement and Further Agenda in Japan and the EU
The WEEE management systems have been instituted for more than 5 years in Japan (implemented in 2001) and the EU (implemented in 2005). The assessments of the WEEE management have been carried out in Japan and the EU. In the EU the recast of WEEE management has been proposed and discussed. On the other hand, China, the biggest EEE production country and increasing consumption country, has just started to set up it. Therefore it is very important to make clear the achievements and the further agenda of WEEE management in Japan and the EU. Our main topics are (1) a re-examination of the EPR (Extended Producers Responsibility) including the Design for Environment, (2) the improvement in collection rate including the problems of stakeholder and incentives. This review is the follow-up study of the presentation in 2008 (3rd ICWMT).
