Analysis of Physical-Chemical Characteristics for Electrolytic Manganese Residues
Electrolytic manganese residues (EMR) are generated by producing metal manganese in electrolysis process. A great deal of EMR stacking in the villages has given rise to serious environmental problems. In this paper, it analyzed the physical and chemical characteristics of EMR by means of XRF, XRD and chemical analysis. The main chemical compositions of EMR were SiO2 and SO3, followed by Al2O3 and CaO. Gypsum and silica were the main mineral composition. The chemical analysis was applied to make clear the different Mn forms. It showed that Mn forms in EMR included the soluble manganese, manganese carbonate and manganese dioxide. Test of leaching toxicity of EMR pointed out that the results were within the limit of standard GB5085.3-2007. Test analysis results could be used to guide the electrolytic manganese production, environmental assessment and treatment of EMR.
