Environmental Safety of Clinker after Co-Processing of Zn Contained Waste

Zn contained reagent was added to the cement raw meal to produce clinkers after clinkerization process. Leaching test, sequential extraction procedures and SEM-EDS analysis were employed to evaluate the migration characteristics and mineralogy change of Zn during the sintering and hydration process. The results show the retention rate of heavy meal during the sintering process is up to 76.55%, while the content of Zn in C3S, the major mineral phase in clinker, was only 0.6-1.3%. The SEM-EDS analysis of clinkers shows Zn has strong dependent relationship with Ca, Al and O. XRD analysis of clinkers shows Ca14Al10Zn6O35 and ZnAl2O4 were generated during the clinkerizaion process, which were more stable under high pH environment during the hydration process. Leaching test shows the leaching concentration of Zn has no considerable increase compared to the blank samples. BCR sequential extraction procedures analysis of the clinkers shows exchangeable, water and acid-soluble phase of Zn only accounts for 0.02% of the total, Zn primarily existed in easily reduced fraction, oxidizable fraction and residue fraction.
