The Dioxin Control Technology of Cremation and Management in China 978-1-935068-68-6 . 2010 SciRes.

In 2009, a total of 4.542 million corpses were cremated in China, with a 48.2% of the cremation ratio. Cremation flue gases contain large amounts of environmental pollutants, such as dusts, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, mercury and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), etc. Funeral industries have been identified as priority control of dioxin emissions of six key industries. Corpses can be seen as special solid contaminants. In contrast to other incineration processes, researches on dioxin emission reduction in cremation field are very limited. In this paper, the status of cremation and the research on the dioxin control technology in China were discussed. Cremator design, combustion control and flue gas treatment technology were evaluated to control the cremation of the dioxin contamination. Some management measures and regulations about the pollution prevention and control of cremation and green burial were also introduced.
