Enhanced field-emission from a mixture of carbon nanotubes, ZnO tetrapods and conductive particles
In recent years, many nano materials, such as carbon nanotubes(CNTs), ZnO nanostructures and BN nano wires have been applied in the high frequency amplifiers and X-ray tubes due to their excellent field-emission characteristics1,2. As electron source in the electronic device, the field emitters have to provide high field-emission current. To improve the field-emission performance, the array of ZnO nanorods is patterned to decrease the screen effect. A field-emission current of 5 mA is obtained from a 1 cm2 emission area3. K. C. Qi reported an field emitter array of LaB6 micro-tips. From a 1mm....mm emission area, a large current of 5.8mA is measured4. Apart from the direct field-emission mode, the explosive field emission induced by the plasma with a small time width is also reported5, 6. With a well-aligned array of ZnO nanorods, the emission current is higher than 1 kA. However, the width of current pulse is only 100ns.
