Preparation and Characterization of Films Based on Cellulose Acetate Nanocomposites
The aim of the present work has been oriented to develop cellulose acetate films with nanofillersbased on different organoclays. The organoclays used have consisted of Montmorillonite/alkylammonium(hexa-and tetra-decyltrimethylammonium), Montmorillonite/chitosan and commercial organoclay (Cloisite30B).All synthesized organoclays have been characterized by X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and FourierTransform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). These analyses allowed to confirm the modification of clay structurewhich was dependent on the chemical structure of organic component used. On the other hand, the differentorganoclays were used to produce cellulose acetate nanocomposites by solution casting technique. Thenanocomposites were analyzed by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), XRD and oxygen and water vaporpermeability. All nanocomposites showed the intercalation of cellulose acetate inside the clay structureand an important effect of nanofillers on the oxygen transmission rate (OTR) compared to cellulose acetatewithout nanofillers.
