Evaluation of Reusabilty of DLC-Coated PET Bottles Development of DLC-coated PET bottles for repeated use
Reuse of PET bottles reduces PET resin usage and waste, and contributes to decrease of greenhousegas emission. However, PET bottles tend to absorb smelly and dirty matters into the surface of PETresin unlike glass bottles, and it is hard to remove them completely by washing. DLC coating has possibilityto prevent absorption of substances into PET resin surfaces. Therefore, we have recently developed a techniquefor forming an intermediate layer between DLC layer and PET bottle surface, which enables to withstandsrepeated uses without exfoliation. Various evaluation tests for reusability of improved DLC coated bottleswere carried out and the results indicated DLC coated PET bottles have potential for reuse.
