Study on Methods of Expanding Destination Gamut in Hi-Fi Color Packaging Printing

Several methods to extend destination gamut were studied for the high fidelity color packagingprinting in this paper, including gamut mapping methods dependent on image, improving paper surface performancesand using high fidelity printing of more than four color inks. We classified the above methods intotwo classes, soft method and hard method. The characteristics of the above methods to extend destinationgamut were analyzed and the extension results were compared. The ranges, results and mechanisms of thegamut extension made by the two types of methods were different. The results help to make a further study onthe methods to achieve high fidelity color packaging printing and to extend the destination gamut, then to perceivethe best visual effect in color transmission process.
