Research on history of Chinese earliest sports games,ST. John s college games in 1890
Introduction: Many scholars are not clear to the status of St. John s College Games (SJCG) in 1890, such as History of Chinese Track and Field did not use first , History of Schools P. E. used the word may , Zhi-min LIU(2002) and Gang CHEN(2007) also did not give a clear definition in their column. In addition, different books have different ideas to the time of the first games in China, Historical Shadow of Late Qing Dynasty thought it was 1897, while A Historical Review of the Chinese School Sports Meetings in the 20th Century China considered it was 1902, what is more, Chinese Young Men s Christian Association and the Education of Modern China is self-contradictory with both 1902 and 1890. Then, based on authoritative literatures, this article tentatively gives a conclusion to status and contents of Chinese earliest sports games.
