The connection between precompetitive training and competition performance in CNU baseball batters
Introduction: The spring training has been considered as an important competitive phase in Major League Baseball (MLB). The competitive phase is usually divided into 2 sub phases called precompetitive and main competition (Bompa, 1994). The duration of the precompetitive phase can be 1-2 months, whereas the main competition phase will be based on the length of the baseball season. The program of the precompetitive phase usually contains workouts designed to allow the athlete to warm-up and improve flexibility, core strength and stability, muscular strength, local muscle endurance, power, metabolic fitness, flexibility, and mental toughness. Workouts are designed to get the batter motion in game shape by opening day, reduce the risk of injury, and maintain a high level of fitness and performance throughout the season (Coleman, 2009).
