Development and validation of an efficient lc-ms method for the simultaneous quantifictaion of ephedrines in urine
Introduction: Ephedrine (EP) , pseudoephedrine (PEP) , norephedrine (NEP) , methylephedrine (MEP) and norpseudoephedrine (NPEP) (Fig. 1) are five stimulants usually abused by athletes. According to WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) regulations, NEP is not on the prohibited list and can be used unrestricted. For NPEP a threshold of 5μg/ml, EP and MEP a threshold of 10μg/ml and PEP a threshold of 150μg/ml is employed. The aim of this work is to develop and validate a quantitative method for direct urinary detection of ephedrines by LC coupled to single quadrupole MS. The applicability of the developed method is tested by analyzing spiked samples as well as educational samples obtained from World Association of Anti-Doping Scientists (WAADS).
