Electromyographic and kinematic gait difference at three running speed between overground and treadmill
Introduction: The treadmill permits locomotion within a small area, allows control of the level of physical activity and environmental factors, and facilitates use of various types of monitoring equipment which require attachments to the subject. For such reasons, the treadmill has been an apparatus associated with experimental studies, rehabilitation therapy and training for a long time. Although several studies have been done in the area of metabolic energy expenditure, little information is available on the differences between treadmill and floor running in terms of the kinetics, kinematics and electromyography of locomotion. The purpose of this study is to compare treadmill running with floor running in terms of three-dimensional kinematic and EMG. Our findings may be helpful for determining the appropriateness of treadmill and providing some advice on public bodybuilding, experimental studies, athletic training or in certain clinical setting.
