Mechanical analysis in chen s technique of handstand scissor on the pommel horse
Introduction: Handstand scissors (HS) have been regarded as a required motion in the complete set on the pommel horse. The purpose of this study was to utilize video analysis to guide and ameliorate gymnastic athletes HS motion, and possibly create new style of motion according to the athletes performance. Methods: Chen Chen, a gymnastic athlete from Jiangsu gymnastic team, participated in this study. His performance of standard and inverted HS was video recorded. Three dimensional video analysis was used to analyze inverted HS and to assist Chens standard HS achievement. Both standard and inverted HS were compared to determine motion mechanism which will serve as a guide for the future motion amelioration and innovation. Handstand scissor on the pommel horse was divided into four phases for the analysis: single hand downward swing; double hand support swing; single hand support upward swing; double hand support upward swing to handstand.
