Analysis of Individual Energy Consuming Components in a Wireless Handheld Device
Mobile phones and handheld wireless devices like PDAs, smartphones, etc. are becoming increasingly popular. The extending range of applications offered on a single device has helped cause this huge increase in popularity among users. However, the significant energy consumption of these devices has become a great concern in the research and scientific world. Many approaches and techniques have been investigated in recent years in order to prolong battery life. Yet, energy optimization in the case of rich media transmission and video delivery is still an infant area of re-search and requires further investigation. This paper catalogues the distribution of energy among the different components with a spe-cial focus on energy consumption in video streaming. A mathematical analysis has been carried out for estimating power requirements and typical consumption values are given that could be further used in simulation based analysis.
