Genomic resources of representative gramineous grasses and their comparative analysis

A vast amount of DNA sequence information has been generated for many numbers of Gramineae family and deposited in public databases. Comparative analysis of these data will allow us to identify conserved gene sequences and functions among species, which will facilitate fast gene discovery in economically important species. In this article, we summarize the available genomic resources of seven representative gramineous grasses including the whole genome sequence of Brachypodium distachyon, segmental genomic and EST (expressed sequence tag) sequences of Panicum virgatum (Switchgrass) , Festuca arundinacea (tall fescue) , Cynodon dactylon (bermudagrass) , Agrostis stolonifera (bentgrasses) , Loiium perenne (perennial ryegrass) and Leymus chinensis. We also performed a preliminary comparative analysis of these genomic resources to infer the phylogenic relationship among species and the biological properties of each species in order to accelerate discovery of stress resistance genes, especially to find the genomic resources to adapt future climate changes.
