A 4CL—like Gene from Galega orientalis was up—regulated by variety abiotic stress
Lignin is an important biopolymer in higher plants and plays an important role in growth and development of plants. 4 -coumarate;CoA: Aligase (4CL) gene encode a key enzyme in biosynthesis process of lignin. Galega orientalis is a promising perennial nitrogen -fixing forage legume for forage production and soil improvement, possessing strong drought and cold resistance. Using RACE technology and RT -PCR method, a full length cDNA, which encode a 4CL -gene, was isolated from G.. Orientalis, termed Go4CL. Drought stress significantly induced Go4CL gene expression. Exogenous phytohormones, such as ABA, MeJA and SA, all up -regulate the gene expression of Go4CL. These results indicated that GcACL maybe involved in variety of stress -resistance regulation pathway. Isolation and characterization of 4CL genes from G. Orientalis would help us to understand its excellent resistances to environmental stresses and lay a foundation for genetic improving stress tolerance in pasture or other crops.
