Effect of cutting strategy on surface generation in ultra-precision raster milling

This paper studies the effect of cutting strategy on surface topography and surface roughness in ultraprecision raster milling (UPRM). During the analysis of the surface generation mechanism, factors including cutting parameters, tool path generation (TPG), tool geometry and the feed rate module of ultra-precision machines are taken into consideration. Experiments are conducted to investigate the effects of feed direction, depth of cut and entry distance on surface topographies and surface roughness of the ultra-precision raster milled surface.
