Application of Paste Filling in Metal Mine for the Purpose of Green Mining in China
Extracting valuable minerals from the earth inevitably leads to two main side effects: the accumulation of waste tailings on the ground surface and the creation of underground large voids. Paste filling technology is the critical resort for green mining and cleaner production in mining industry. The paste filling system in both JinChuan Nickel Mine and TongLuShan Copper Mine has been presented. The research and application of paste filling in ChiHong Mine has been analyzed. The composition of paste and mix proportion was determined by investigation on the material properties. Flow loop was conducted to investigate the factors affecting one-way resistance, the suggestion value of which was 8MPa/km. During practice in ChiHong, deep-cone thickener was used as one-part dehydration for unclassified tailing dewatering, and cement was added on ground without water. Two-stage horizontal continuous mixer was used for paste preparation. Totalhydraulic twin-piston pump was selected for paste transportation. The advanced Distributed Control System (DCS) was selected as well. The filling system was applied successfully in ChiHong. The paste concentration reached 78-81%, and the filling capacity is 1264m3/day. The compressive strength of the backfill exceeded 7MPa after 28 days, and the cost is only 25 dollar/m3. Furthermore, the current problems faced by the filling system were analyzed in this paper, and reasonable methods for addressing those problems have also been put forward.
